Josh Davila is an artist working with artificial intelligence and new media to explore themes of language, memory, and the unconscious. His practice is deeply influenced by Experimental Surrealism, a self-coined movement that integrates emerging technologies—such as AI and generative systems—into contemporary surrealist exploration. Through his work, he examines how machines reconstruct meaning and distort human perception, while using AI as a tool to explore trauma and fragmented identity.

Grounded in a personal history of trauma and survival, Davila’s work engages with fractured identity and the evolving dialogue between human and machine creativity. An early adopter of generative AI, he has been experimenting with neural networks since 2021, both as a creative tool and as a means of navigating personal history and lived experience.
